Yutaka Hayashi

Cellist


Yutaka Hayashi graduated from Nagoya Municipal Kikuzato High School Music Department and is a 1992 graduate of the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. While at university, he studied under Hayashi Ryoichi, Horie Yasushi, Miki Takayuki, Reine Flachot, Daniil Shafran, and David Finckel. Furthermore, he performed as soloist with the Tokyo University of Fine Arts Orchestra, the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, and in a special concert for the Emperor of Japan at the Imperial Palace, Toka-Gakudo Hall in Tokyo. Upon graduation he played in the 14th annual Yomiuri New Musicians Concert and the 7th annual Nerima Bunka Newcomer's Concert. Also in 1992 he participated in the ASPEN Music Festival in Colorado, U.S.A., and the Kita- Kyusyu International Music Festival, and he appeared as soloist with the KBS Symphony Orchestra. In 1993 he received the Yomiuri Young Artist Award and performed in the Yomiuri-sponsored 7th annual Yomiuri Invitational Concert. Moreover, he took first prize in the cello division of the 62nd Music Competition of Japan, and also won the Kuroyanagi prize. He has performed in Kyoto and Osaka and other cities around Japan, and recently joined the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, where he is now principal cellist. One of the finest of Japan's younger musicians, Mr. Hayashi is sure to further his brilliant career in the years to come.
